As we head into the new year (and into year two of COVID…maybe I’ll blog about that at another time), it seems like a good time to gather up a few things I’ve really enjoyed over the past couple of years.
Movies
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
- Boyhood
- All the Marvel movies (we did a full rewatch)
- Revisiting 90s movies I loved in my teen years (Singles, Reality Bites, Slacker, Kevin Smith movies)
- The Perks of Becoming a Wallflower
TV
- Yellowstone (and 1883)
- Succession (I’m obsessed with this one)
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- It’s Always Sunny
- The Righteous Gemstones
- Silicon Valley
- The OC
- StartUp (I can’t begin to explain how much this show stressed me out, but I liked it)
Music
- Hiss Golden Messenger (I’ve recently gotten into the full catalog, and the new one, Quietly Blowing It is incredible)
- American Aquarium - Lamentations (and those cover albums of 90s country bangers)
- Jason Isbell - Reunions (this one and AA’s Lamentations felt like the perfect soundtrack to those early days of the pandemic)
- Pearl Jam - Gigaton
- Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
- Andrew Belle - Nightshade
- Pine grove - Marigold
- Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
- Waxahatchee - St. Cloud
- All the OC soundtracks
- Tons of 90s music I’ve been going back to for comfort
Books
- Up In The Old Hotel
- Faulkner’s Snopes Trilogy
- How to Write One Song - Jeff Tweedy
- The Hobbit
I won’t promise to blog more often, but I felt like I should at least try to capture a few things that have kept me going lately.
Stay safe and be nice to each other!
